OUR STORY

It all began in the summer of 2005. Evgeni Petkov, a former indoor player for Cherno More-BASK and a current beach volleyball player, organised a series of beach volleyball tournaments for both men and women. By the end of the beach season, many female players found themselves without teams. Some were labeled as unpromising, while others struggled to secure positions in teams either in Bulgaria or abroad.

Then, in 2005, an idea sparked. Denitsa Genova, Viktoria Viktorova, and Anna Dragieva approached Evgeni Petkov with a proposal- to start a new club and compete in the Bulgarian Championship. This was a significant moment, as Varna hadn’t had a women’s team for over a decade. Embracing the challenge, Petkov registered the club just two days later, and training sessions began. The University of Economics – Varna generously provided facilities for training and official tournament accreditation.

A huge reason for pride was the fact that the team was made up entirely of women
from Varna. Petkov, taking on the role of a multifunctional manager or a ‘one-man show’ not only managed coaching and organisational activities but also personally funded the club.
His good friend, Borislav Yordanov, stood by him as a faithful assistant throughout the season.

Just six months after its foundation, Energy triumphed as the Champion of Bulgaria. In a stunning turnaround, they won the final series against Slavia, reversing a 0:2 trail to a 3:2 victory. The decisive match ended in a categorical 3:2 win for Energy in Sofia.

We are committed to creating a sense of community and teamwork through regular practice and friendly competition, while also promoting physical fitness and personal development for both adults and children.

Our club warmly welcomes individuals of all ages and levels, and we are dedicated to offering opportunities for both children and adults to enjoy and thrive in the sport of volleyball as a cohesive team.
